“In my mind, photography is an opportunity for the illusion of having the power to stop time by creating present, presence, a time without beginning nor end, a time in itself, out of time.
Photography is a way to give visibility to something, an ode to vision.
To take a picture is like to give an extraordinary place to anything or anyone, to make them happen in another space and time.
The question is to know what we want to show and keep in memory and why it is so important to leave a trace of it.
Photography as an art, is an open window to the world, a representation of it by fragments which is necessarily created by a human action.
Behind the camera, there is always an intention, an individual mind; the Camera is a prolongation of ourselves.
Each picture says something about truth, even if what we see is not true, there is an intimate relation between photography and truth because of representing the world in one chosen moment.
When you take a picture you cannot do it without the idea of taking a picture for yourself; a picture is like a mirror, this is a place for our own sensitivity, sincerity; you are entirely with yourself because you are in a private meeting with the world.
In everything we do, we are looking for who we are, this is the meaning of life. To take a picture is a way to give a meaning of life, to pay attention to this meaning.
World has its own truth and it’s just in front of us, it is always ready to be taken and gave back”. - Julie Badin

L’œil Différé is a female European photography collective. Once a month we choose a theme or subject and publish our individual interpretations. The collective consists of photographers Julie Badin (Paris, France), Rossana Mendes Fonseca (Porto, Portugal) and April Wiser (Paris, France).
For our premiere theme and as an introduction to our photography collective we have chosen: What Is Photography?
Coming Mid-August!
